Vitali Klitschko's UDAR Party has proposed forming a coalition of democratic forces in the new parliament after the parliamentary elections to be held on October 28, according to a statement posted on the party's official Web site on Thursday.

“This is in the European tradition, when democratic parties that get into parliament unite their efforts and develop a common action plan… Our position is clear, open and honest, without any ultimatums, prerequisites and backroom agreements,” Klitschko told reporters in Kharkiv on Thursday.

The party said that it respected the proposal of its partners in the opposition to sign an agreement on the creation of a coalition of democratic forces in the new parliament on October 19, but it believes that “victory in the elections and the protection of the election results, rather than the signing of statements, declarations and agreements, is the main the job of the opposition at this time.”

“The UDAR Party is the main alternative force to the ruling party, [a party] that can form a coalition of democratic forces in the newly elected parliament for the sake of change in Ukraine and the removal of the Regions Party from power,” reads the statement.
