The Ukrainian parliament with 254 supporting votes on Oct. 20 passed the law on amendments to Ukrainian laws regarding some issues of inheritance authorizing rural councils with rights of notaries.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that the government supports the adoption of the law.

“The law on inheritance. The goal is to authorize rural councils to carry out actions of notaries,” he said, speaking at the parliament on Oct. 20.

According to the explanatory note, the law is to facilitate a procedure for registering inheritance and rights of heirs to immovable property.

The law also cancels the obligatory appraisal of property if the heirs are those who are first and second in line to inherit and if the property the tax on which is set at a zero rate is inherited. Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko said before voting that the notary system continues working.
