Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law on the principles of the state regional policy, the presidential press service reported on March 1.

Law No.156-VII, passed by the Ukrainian parliament on Feb. 5, defines the basic legal, economic, social, environmental, humanitarian and organizational principles of the state regional policy as part of the state domestic policy.

“The law lays the legal framework for implementing a new state regional policy which will embrace a larger range of issues than that of merely maintaining regional development. It defines the goals, principles and priorities of the state regional policy, a state strategy for regional development, the powers of the subjects of the state regional policy, as well as the principles of funding the state regional policy and monitoring its implementation,” the press service said.

The adoption of this law is on the agenda of Ukraine-European Union association, the press service said.
