Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has urged leading public figures of Ukraine to become conductors of decentralization reform ideas, the press service of the President reported on Thursday.

According to the statement, Poroshenko met with leading public figures on Thursday. He noted the importance of ‘an honest and open conversation on decentralization as one of the most important reforms that Ukraine’s been waiting for many years’ and addressed those present with the request to become active in the protection of country’s unity and its further democratic development.

‘We’re one team, we understand Ukraine’s interests in the same way and coordinate country’s movement. I want you to talk. The Ukrainian nation needs to hear your voice, as you are (figures of) authority for Ukrainian people today, and we must speak in one voice,’ the President noted. He also said that the creation of local self-administration would make Ukraine closer to Europe.
