MOSCOW — Russia's top investigative body says eight people have been killed in the crash of a plane carrying skydivers in western Siberia.

The Investigative Committee says the crash took place about a mile (1.5 kilometers) from the airport in Kalachevo, some 850 miles (1,400 kilometers) east of Moscow. The plane was carrying two crew members and six skydivers, a committee statement said.

The cause of Sunday's crash was not immediately determined. Russian news agencies identified the plane as an SM92T, a single-engine propeller aircraft.
