Russia is determined to work for guaranteeing the interests of its citizens living on the left bank of the Dniester and expects the parties to the Transdniestrian conflict to promptly begin discussing political aspects of the settlement.

“Together with our Ukrainian partners we will work to resolve practical issues related not only to the interaction between the two banks of the Dniester but also guaranteeing the interests of the citizens of Russia and Ukraine living on the left bank of the river,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a session of the Russian-Ukrainian subcommittee on international cooperation on Monday.

“I am sure that building confidence between the sides will make the transition to a discussion of political questions possible,” the minister said.
