Sergei Lebedev, chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, said everyone in the CIS wants the crisis in Ukraine to be resolved.

“All countries of the CIS want the situation in Ukraine to stabilize
as soon as possible and they want peace and accord in Ukrainian
society,” Lebedev told reporters in Minsk on May 5.

“This would not only be in the interests of Ukraine, but also in the interests of all CIS countries,” Lebedev said.

Lebedev said this issue was discussed during the meeting with Belarusian
President Alexander Lukashenko. “The meeting addressed the difficult
situation in the CIS,” he said.

“We spoke about the events in Ukraine with alarm and concerns. It’s
our partner, our neighbor historically, traditionally and regardless of
CIS membership, which is tied to us and the other CIS countries with
millions of economic, humanitarian, and family links,” Lebedev said.

Lebedev said the CIS countries hopes that Ukraine will achieve peace
and calm as soon as possible. “Such wishes are made by simple working
people, who work in economics and other spheres. Everyone I have talked
to expressed a sincere wish for peace and stability for Ukraine as soon
as possible,” he said.
