 MINSK - The gross influx of foreign direct investment in Belarus was $7.65 billion in January-September 2012, down 13.3% on the same period of 2011, the National Statistics Committee (Belstat) said in a press release.

The biggest amounts of foreign direct investment went into trade (49%
of the gross direct investment), transport (34.2%) and industry
(10.7%). A considerable volume of foreign direct investment came from
Russia (48% of the total). British residents invested 32.8% of gross
direct investment, Cyprus – 4.4% and Ukraine – 3.2%.

Belarusian residents increased direct investment abroad by 50% in the
nine months to $3 billion. Most of the direct investment went into
companies in Russia (43.3%), Britain (25.8%), Ukraine (20.9%),
Kazakhstan (2.6%) and Lithuania (2.2%).

Other foreign investment in Belarus totalled $2.1 billion in
January-September 2012, down 44.9% on the same period of 2011.
Belarusian companies sent other investments abroad of $1.5 billion, down
20.9%.

Belstat said total foreign investment in Belarus (direct, portfolio
and other) totalled $9.75 billion in January-September 2012, down 22.7%.
