Moscow - The restrictions imposed by Russia on the import of some food products from the European Union undermine Russia's reputation as a reliable partner, Vygaudas Usackas, the head of the EU delegation to Russia, said.

Usackas told the Govorit Moskva radio station on Thursday, Aug. 7 there will be consequences for Russia.

He said the EU will see whether the decision made by Russia is in
line with the WTO rules, adding that he thinks it contradicts WTO rules.

The diplomat believes the EU is closely following decisions made by
an important partner such as Russia and regrets that such measures have
been taken.

He said it is believed that the sanctions will have negative
consequences, adding that he believes this decision hurts ordinary
Russian consumers as 40 percent of all imported food comes to Russia from the
EU.
