You're reading: Foreign Minister: China seeks broader ties with Russia

BEIJING, March 6 (Interfax) - China is prepared to continue promoting relations with Russia in all areas, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said.

"The Chinese government will work together with the Russian side to steadily advance the Russian-Chinese comprehensive strategic partnership. We will strengthen practical cooperation in all areas," Yang said at a press conference on the sidelines of a National People’s Congress session on March 6.

He reiterated the need to abide by the two countries’ ten-year joint action plan, naming mutual high- and highest-level visits, bilateral political support, as well as trade, business, scientific and technological cooperation, ties at the regional level, broader cooperation in humanitarian affairs and coordination in global and regional issues among the main areas of Russian-Chinese contacts.

The Chinese foreign minister congratulated Russia on its successful presidential election, wishing the Russian people "huge success, wellbeing and national prosperity".
