You're reading: France suspends participation in S1000 submarine project with Russia

Alabino (Moscow region) - The Russian-French project to design a S1000 small-displacement submarine has been suspended, said Oleg Bochkaryov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian government's Military-Industrial Commission.

“The S1000 small submarine project has now been suspended. The French
have refused to proceed in this joint work,” Bochkaryov told
Interfax-AVN at the Russian Defense Ministry’s innovations exhibition
which opened in Alabino just outside Moscow on Monday, Aug. 4.

He did not rule out the project could resume in future.

“I think it is some kind of a freeze. The French business wants to
continue it. It means orders, money, jobs. But so far politics has
prevailed over business,” Bochkaryov said.
