Russia's embargo on imports of food products from Western countries will provide a beneficial market shakeup, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said during a meeting with his deputy prime ministers on Aug. 18.

“The fact that as a result of this difficult decision for us [imposition
of an embargo on import of food products from a host of countries] we
will be able to in some ways shake up the food products market, I see
definite pluses in this, for understandable reasons. We need for
everyone to understand: there must be a competitive situation on the
market and not a situation where all the apples, for example are from
Poland or some other food products, fish are from Norway,” he said.
