You're reading: Medvedev: Russian, Belarusian relations in integrating advance

Yalta – Relations between Russia and Belarus in the matter of integration have advanced substantially over the last year and a half, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

“I think that over the year, year and a half we have substantially advanced in the development of ties, both intergovernmental and inter-economic,” Medvedev said during a meeting with Belarusian counterpart Mikhail Myasnikovich.

The meeting between the heads of government took place Friday ‘on the margins’ of a gathering of the Commonwealth of Independent States Council of Heads of Governments.

The two countries have now developed “an unprecedented high level of cooperation,” Medvedev said. “Even though there were a lot of differences earlier, that period is in the past,” he said.

Myasnikovich said that the bilateral relations between their two countries “have moved forward” in relation to integration processes in the Commonwealth of Independent States, and that they are a model for all other associations in the CIS.

Commenting on the council meeting and the documents signed in the context of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC), Myasnikovich said that these decisions will determine the economy for ten to fifteen years to come.
