Minsk - The next session of the CIS Heads of State Council is due to take place in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, in Sept. or Oct. 2015, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at Friday's CIS summit in Minsk.

“We will hold the next session of the CIS Heads of State Council in Astana in Sept. or October. An exact date will be announced late,” he said.

The Belarusian president also proposed discussing new areas of cooperation within the CIS as Kazakhstan prepares to take over the CIS presidency from Belarus.

On the whole, “as far as the CIS development concept is concerned, a significant amount of work has been accomplished, but the scope of scientific cooperation remains insufficient,” he said.

Lukashenko, however, praised the level of cooperation between law enforcement agencies of CIS member states.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, whose country will hold the CIS presidency in 2015, promised to further promote confidence building measures and mutual understanding between member states.

Kazakhstan will also take steps to enhance trade and business cooperation within the CIS, including contacts in the energy sector, industry and transport, he said. Great attention will also be paid to cooperation in humanitarian affairs.

He said that 2015, which will mark the 70th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, should be declared the Year of the Veterans within the CIS.
