WASHINGTON - Russia and the United States managed to narrow some of the differences on Syria, but the final agreement has not been reached yet, the Pentagon said.

“Some of the differences in those discussions [between United States Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Geneva] toward durable solutions have been narrowed, but as Secretary Kerry said, issues still remain that need to be addressed. There is no agreement at this time,” Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook told Interfax on August 29, replying to a question as to whether the U.S. Department of Defense had changed its position regarding military cooperation with Russia in Syria after the consultations in Geneva and, in particular, whether coordinated airstrikes are possible on the positions of extremists in this country.
