You're reading: Police expect opposition rally on Triumfalnaya Square in Moscow

MOSCOW - The police restricted parking in the area of the Triumfalnaya Square on Tuesday morning, creating problems for many drivers.

On Tuesday morning, parking was prohibited in Sadovaya-Triumfalnaya Ulitsa, Oruzheiny Pereulok, and some other streets close to the Triumfalnaya Square.

A traffic police told Interfax the parking restrictions have been imposed because an opposition protest is expected to be held in the square.

Several traffic police vehicles can be seen in the area of the Triumfalnaya Square.

Representatives of the unregistered opposition party Other Russia and Strategy 31 activists traditionally gather in the Triumfalnaya Square.

Alexander Averin, an Other Russia activist, told Interfax the opposition does not plan any rallies in the Triumfalnaya Square on Tuesday.

"We are not holding anything in the Triumfalnaya Square today," Averin said, adding that Other Russia plans to conduct a rally in the Triumfalnaya Square on Jan. 31.
