Moscow - The confidence rating of businessmen, policemen and politicians is the lowest in Russia, and feelings are mixed about journalists, the Russian Public Opinion Study Center told Interfax on Monday.

Scientists (66%) and teachers (63%) topped the confidence rating. Nevertheless, their rating is 5% down since the previous poll in 2010.

Fifty-seven percent of the respondents trust servicemen, 54% – doctors and 50% – clerics, although trust in clerics dipped by 15% in the past two years.

Only 23% have trust in public officers, and 52% have not. Half of the respondents mistrust businessmen, and 52% feel cautious about the police. Politicians have the worst rating: 53% of the respondents doubt their respectability and only 20% trust them.

The society is divided over trust in journalists: 37% of Russians believe what journalists say and 32% do not.

The center polled 1,600 people in 138 towns and villages in 46 regions.
