You're reading: Pussy Riot lawyers going to take case to Strasbourg Court

Moscow - The defense team of Pussy Riot is ready to take their case to the European Court of Human Rights to appeal against the verdict by the Khamovnichesky Court on Friday, said Nikolai Polozov, lawyer for band member Marina Alyokhina.

“We can go to the ECHR with a complaint against the unlawful verdict,” Polozov told reporters after the trial ended on Friday.

“Besides, we have the right to appeal to the Supreme and Constitutional courts because a number of provisions in the Criminal Proceedings Code are obsolete, unconstitutional and cannot be applied in legal proceedings,” Polozov said.

The young women from Pussy Riot are ready to fight to restore their good name until the end, the lawyer said. “We will fight, we will represent their interests, and I am certain that eventually we will secure their full rehabilitation,” the lawyer said.

What is happening at the Khamovnichesky court “is not a criminal procedure but a shameful trial by ordeal,” he said.
