MOSCOW - Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, on his birthday and praised his contribution to the formation of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space.

“Everyone knows about your personal contribution to the consolidation
of the Russian-Belarusian friendship, resolution of major issues
relating to the union-building, and formation of the Customs Union and
the Common Economic Space. The results achieved in these areas enable us
today to move successfully towards the Eurasian Economic Union,” the
Russian president said in a telegram posted on the Kremlin’s website on
Thursday.

Belarus and Russia will continue to increase their diverse
cooperation and consistently implement integration projects, Putin
wrote.

“Your efficient work as Belarusian President aimed at active
socio-economic development of your country, earned you high authority
and trust among your fellow citizens,” the telegram said.

Putin wished Lukashenko good heath, happiness, well-being and new achievements.
