MOSCOW - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said that he, as a presidential candidate, does not need ballot stuffing because he plans to rely on people's trust.

"All of us and I, as one of the candidates, do not need any ballot stuffing. I myself want them [the presidential elections] to be as transparent as possible. I want to rely on people’s expression of their will and their trust. I want this to be clear to everyone," Putin said at a session of the Russian Popular Front’s federal coordinating council.

If there is no trust, "there is no point in working further," he said.

Putin said that he personally was interested in the transparency of the presidential election, which would reflect the actual state of affairs in the country.

"I certainly count on our people’s support. But we need to dispel any possible insinuations over the illegitimacy of this process once and for all. It is important for the country, for the state," the premier said.
