Moscow - Opposition activist Leonid Razvozzhayev, a suspect in three criminal cases, is still in an Irkutsk detention facility, the Main Department of the Federal Service for the Enforcement of Punishments (GUFSIN) for the Irkutsk region reported on Twitter.

“To avoid the spread of false information, GUFSIN reports that suspect Leonid Razvozzhayev is in Detention Facility 1 in Irkutsk on January 18,” the report says.

The opposition activist’s lawyers earlier said he had gone missing.

Investigative actions were taken on Razvozzhayev on Thursday in Detention Facility № 1. His two lawyers, wife, and an investigator from Moscow had arrived in Irkutsk.

Left Front activist Razvozzhayev is a suspect in three criminal cases. He is accused of preparing to organize mass unrest and assault (the incident took place 15 years ago in Angarsk, but the investigation was never completed).

On December 4, the Investigations Committee opened a criminal case against Razvozzhayev, accusing him of illegal border crossing. According to the investigators, Razvozzhayev knew about the probe into the documentary Anatomy of Protest-2 and decided to hide from the investigators on October 15.

In the meantime, Razvozzhayev says he was abducted in Ukraine, was forcibly taken to Russia, and was tortured.

Razvozzhayev’s request for a criminal case to be opened on the basis of his abduction and torture was declined.
