Russian State Nuclear Energy Company Rosatom is considering raising loans on the Asian market, First Deputy General Director and CFO of Rosatom Nikolai Solomon told journalists on Oct. 28

No agreements have been reached on the issue yet, he said on the sidelines of the annual Adam Smith Russian CFO Summit. “Specific talks might take place in the coming month or two,” Solomon said, adding that this measure was being considered as an alternative to the European market.

“We don’t yet need loans for Europe. We are now borrowing for Russian construction and we’re trying not to meddle in loans,” he said.

The company’s program to finance the construction of nuclear power plants (NPP) in Russia is currently underway thanks to funds borrowed at Russian banks.

Solomon said plans for borrowing in 2015 had not yet been made. “We will raise money abroad only when foreign projects require this,” he noted.

In addition, the state corporation is hoping to receive funds from the National Welfare Fund (NWF), Solomin added. “We are hoping the NWF will be useful for us. We would like to participate in the distribution of these funds for interesting projects,” he said.

It is not currently known which specific projects these funds could finance, Solomon said.
