You're reading: Russian Foreign Ministry: Tokyo’s new sanctions a setback for Russia-Japan relations

Moscow - Moscow has described Tokyo's decision to impose further sanctions on Russia as an unfriendly step that may harm "the entire system of relations" between Russia and Japan.

“We regard the announcement by Japan on July 28 of so-called
additional sanction measures in relation to Russia as an unfriendly and
short-sighted step that stems from the deeply erroneous vision of the
real reasons behind the current events in Ukraine,” the Russian Foreign
Ministry said in a commentary on Tuesday.

“The introduction by Tokyo of new sanctions against Russia,
regardless of any reservations that surround them, will inevitably
damage the entire system of bilateral relations and comes as a setback
for them. The Japanese side ought to realize that,” the ministry said.
