Moscow– Russia's Federal Service for Health and Consumer Rights (Rospotrebnadzor) has expressed its concern over the quality of Ukrainian confectionery products, Russia's chief medical officer and Head of Rospotrebnadzor Gennady Onishchenko told Interfax on July 11, 2013.

“The service has recently been increasingly concerned over the quality of confectionery products coming from Ukraine. In the first place, questions are raised by the product of Roshen,” Onishchenko said.

This is not the first time the service has had issues with product delivered from Ukraine.

On Feb. 7, 2012, Russia banned the import of cheeses made by several Ukrainian producers because they did not conform to Russia’s technical regulations for milk and dairy product. Onischenko held talks with a Ukrainian delegations on Apr. 17, 2012, after which was worked out a mechanism for the return of the Ukrainian cheese to the Russian market. A non-negotiable condition was oversight over each and every consignment of Ukrainian cheese.
