You're reading: Russians have no wish to protest, poll says

The protest potential is low in Russia: most citizens have no wish to participate in rallies and protest actions, Levada Center has told Interfax.

According to sociologists, 74% of respondents believe that mass protests against the lowered living standards are now unlikely (19% think this is possible). Only 11% are ready to participate if such actions are held, and 82% do not plan to do so.

The attitude to political actions is similar: 78% of Russians think the probability of such actions is low (the opposite opinion is voiced by 15%). If such rallies happen, 8% of respondents are ready to join in (83% are not).

Ninety-five percent of 1.600 respondents older than 18, polled in 137 populated localities in 48 regions, on April 22-25, said that they took no part in any public protests or strikes over the past twelve months.
