Thirty-eight percent of people interviewed in December described Putin as the political figure of the year, as compared with 60% in 2008. Nineteen percent of respondents named President Dmitry Medvedev, 8% Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhironovsky, 7% Communist Party chairman Gennady Zyuganov, 5% A Just Russia Party leader Sergei Mironov, and 5% businessman Mikhail Prokhorov.
Arsenal London FC and Russian national team player Andrei Arshavin was the athlete of the year for the fourth time in a row, although his rating declined from 18% in 2008 to 5% in 2011.
