Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili saw New Year in together with Georgian troops in Afghanistan. 

The Georgian presidential administration reported on Tuesday that he decorated 11 servicemen taking part in the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan with state awards.

“The president informed the military about his new initiative: the families of peacekeepers killed in action will be receiving regular pensions in addition to lump-sum compensation,” the report says.

It says Saakashvili is staying in Helmand province together with several Georgian deputies.
