The Verkhovna Rada will consider proposals made by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on the law on a single state demographic register at its plenary meeting on Tuesday, a source from the Regions Party parliamentary faction has told Interfax-Ukraine.

“The president has submitted his proposals on this law, which will be discussed tomorrow [at the parliament’s plenary session],” he told the agency.

The source said that the Regions Party faction intends to support the president’s proposals.

As reported, on Oct. 2, 2012 the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, passed a bill on a single state demographic register. The document foresees the introduction of electronic passports containing electronic chips with biometric information.

Representatives of human rights and religious organizations have criticized the law.

The source told Interfax-Ukraine that Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych vetoed the document on October 30 and sent it back to the Verkhovna Rada, together with his proposals.
