DUSHANBE, Tajikistan (AP) — Authorities in Tajikistan say they have seized more than 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of hashish and heroin smuggled into the country from neighboring Afghanistan.

The national drug control agency said the narcotics were found Wednesday in a minibus in the Tajik capital, stashed in nearly 200 plastic containers that looked like books.

The haul included 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of hashish and 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) of heroin.

Tajikistan is a major route for illegal drug trafficking from Afghanistan to Russia and further into Europe, and authorities have struggled to stem the trade.
