The holiday mood, the winter chill and the end-of-the-year fatigue failed to dampen Russia's new found political activism, with a new protest rally on Moscow's Prospekt Akademika Sakharova on Saturday garnering more people than its Dec. 10 prequel on Bolotnaya Ploshchad.

Attendance estimates ranged from 30,000 to120,000, with most independent observers putting the figure between 40,000 to 80,000, compared to some 30,000 to 60,000 for the previous event.
