DUSHANBE - The United States expressed its concern on Monday about the blocking of Facebook and Radio Liberty's Tajik service (Ozodi) and urged Tajik authorities to change their mind.

The U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe expressed concern about the decision of the Tajik government’s Communications Service to block access to the Facebook social network, Radio Ozodi and a number of news websites.

It said the U.S. believes that the freedom of speech both in a public place or online is a universal right.

Tajikistan blocked Facebook on November 26 “by request” of the public, which accused Facebook Tajik users of insulting “respected people” of the republic. The Radio Liberty Tajik service website was blocked on November 30.
