About 3,000 law enforcement officers will maintain public order during the 2014 World Cup qualifier between Ukraine and England at the Olympiysky Stadium in Kyiv on Tuesday, the public liaisons department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's main office in Kyiv has reported.
About 3,000 police officers and Interior Ministry servicemen will be involved in ensuring public order on the area adjacent to the national sports complex and in the central part of the city.
According to some figures, about 2,000 England fans are expected to attend the match. At the same time, according to Kyiv’s Boryspil Airport, no charter flights from Britain are scheduled for Tuesday, and fans will most likely arrive in Ukraine on regular flights. Charter flights are also not expected at Kyiv International Airport.
The Vesti newspaper wrote that after a brawl that broke out between Ukrainians and English fans in a cafe in the city center on Sunday evening, the institutions located near the Olympiysky National Sports Complex are creating mobile response teams to prevent any conflicts. Berkut riot police officers were also invited to some restaurants.
As reported, Ukrainian and English fans were involved in a scuffle in a cafe in the center of Kyiv at 2200 on September 8. Three Britons were injured in the scuffle, and they were hospitalized with head and hand injuries.
However, the foreigners refused to file a written statement at a police station.
The data about the incident were included in the unified register of pre-trial investigations under Part 2, Article 296 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Criminal proceedings have been launched.
