MOSCOW - The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has imposed fines totaling EUR 185,000 on the Russian Football Union for the behavior of Russian fans during the current UEFA European Football Championship (Euro 2012).

The latest fine of EUR 35,000 followed a Group A Russian-Greek game
in Warsaw on June 16 (score 0-1), during which Russian fans were hurling
fireworks into the pitch and putting up banners with prohibited
content, UEFA said in a statement on its Web site.

Earlier, the Russian team ended up with a suspended penalty of being
deprived of six points in the next qualifying contest of Euro 2012 after
Russian fans beat up a stadium steward in the wake of a Russian-Czech
game on June 8 that Russia won 4-1. The Russian Football Union said it
would appeal the penalty.

One more fine was a reprisal for an incident that occurred before
June 17 and so does not involve the loss of any points for the Russians.

Nor does the latest EUR 35,000 fine entail stripping the Russian team of any points.

There have altogether been three incidents that earned fines – EUR
120,000, EUR 35,000 and EUR 30,000 – to the Russian Football Union.
