The head of the EuroBasket 2015 local organizing committee, Markiyan Lubkivsky, has said that the promotion of the EuroBasket 2015 European Basketball Championship in Ukraine should be eventful.

“I don’t rule out that thanks to the legendary figure of Oleksandr Volkov [Olympic champion in 1988 and president of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine], who is known all over the world, Ukraine will be visited in the next three years by such as basketball megastars as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Scottie Pippen, Vlade Divac, Sabonis, and many others. We will invite them to participate in the promotional campaign of EuroBasket 2015,” he said at a working meeting between FIBA Europe Secretary General Kamil Novak and the leadership of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine and the EuroBasket 2015 local organizing committee, which was held in Frankfurt on March 4.

The meeting participants discussed preparations for EuroBasket 2015, in particular, the need to create a monitoring committee with the involvement of experts from FIBA Europe and the local organizing committee in order to monitor the process of preparations for the tournament, as well as the construction and development of the necessary infrastructure. The chief of the European basketball body said he believes this mechanism is an effective instrument for ensuring timely and high-quality preparations for the European basketball championship.

The sides also agreed soon to coordinate the date for holding a meeting of the supervisory board of the project, which will include the managers of FIBA Europe, the Ukrainian government, the Basketball Federation of Ukraine and the EuroBasket 2015 local organizing committee, the press service of the local organizing committee reported on Wednesday.

In the context of discussing the presentation of the Ukrainian project on EuroBasket 2015, which will be held on March 15, 2013 in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik, the FIBA Europe secretary general noted that the success of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship gives reason to optimistically believe that Ukraine will organize EuroBasket 2015 at a high level. He noted that FIBA Europe invites Ukraine to dynamic and effective cooperation and urged the Ukrainian side to act quickly and effectively.
