FC Shakhtar Donetsk has signed a new contract with manager Mircea Lucescu for two years, the club's press service has reported.

The new contract with the Romanian coach was signed after a meeting between Shakhtar President Rinat Akhmetov and Lucescu.

“When we talked about the contract, the question of money was not raised, because it’s not important for me or for the Mister [Lucescu]. I was interested only in the main question: did this team achieve all it could, or can it take a step forward? The gentleman replied simply: ‘I love our fans. I love our players. I believe in my assistants. I’m confident that together with the club, by uniting our efforts, we’re able to conquer new heights,” Akhmetov said.

The subject of Lucescu’s possible withdrawal from Shakhtar after the expiration of the contract with the club has recently been discussed in the media.
