Two French football fans have been hospitalized after clashing with Ukrainian fans in central Kyiv on December 11.

“The French arrived to cheer for St. Germain, who are playing FC Dnipro
tonight in Kyiv. The Frenchmen were hospitalized with head injuries. I think
they will now remember their winter visit to Kyiv for a long time. Police have
arrested two football hooligans of Ukrainian nationality,” advisor to Ukrainian
Interior Minister Anton Heraschenko wrote on his Facebook page on Dec. 11.

A big fight broke out at around 6 p.m. on Dec. 11 on the corner of
Khreschatyk and Prorizna Streets, the Kyiv police said.

“As a result of the incident, four people have been injured (reports about
the injured are being verified), who were taken to city hospitals with various
injuries,” the spokesperson said.

Two men have been held on suspicion of wrongdoing.

Six Frenchmen sustained stab wounds, according to the Hromadske television
channel.

A team of investigators are working at the scene and a report about the
incident has been filed with the Single Register of the Shevchenko District
Police Directorate in Kyiv.

Police are considering launching a criminal inquiry.
