You're reading: Vitali Klitschko to quit boxing

UDAR Party leader and WBC world heavyweight champion, Vitali Klitschko, has said he is not going to continue his professional boxing career.

According to the Ostrov (Island) online publication, when asked at a press conference in Donetsk whether he intended to continue his boxing career after the parliamentary elections, Klitschko said: “I can tell all boxing lovers that the Ukrainian flag will be raised and the Ukrainian national anthem will be heard, when a Klitschko enters the ring.” Later he added: “As for me, I’m not going to box. I have a brother who looks just like me and is more talented and younger. I’m talking about my brother Wladimir.”

As reported, at the beginning of September Klitschko said that in the near future he would decide whether to finish his sports career.

“We can’t deceive nature, and I think that in the near future I’ll have to hang up my boxing gloves. I realize that many boxing lovers will be upset, but it’s inevitable – we have to make way for the young. When I take such a decision, I’ll say so for sure.”
