Ukrainian officials on Tuesday launched a criminal investigation into 15-year-old natural gas supply deals by a dormant trading company that used to be run by Yulia Tymoshenko, the former prime minister. Launched by Ukraine’s SBU state security service, the probe appears to increase pressure on Ms Tymoshenko, now an opposition leader who already faces three corruption charges seen by pro-democracy groups as politically motivated.
