The 3G communications technology in Ukraine could be introduced by the end of this year, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Dmitry Shymkiv has said.

“The NCCR [the National Commission for Communications Regulation] is
to announce the tender. They have already all of the data and decisions.
Then the Defense Ministry is to determine the figure for the conversion
of radio frequency bands. This does not require much time, as they have
done this. Then they are to exchange documents, make a decision and
announce a tender, the operators are ready to participate today,” he
said on the Fifth TV Channel late on Wednesday, July 16.

He said that the development of high-speed communications gives
additional revenues to the national budget, promoting the growth of GDP
and the development of industry.

Asked what terms are required to introduce 3G, he said that if the
country is able to hold a tender by the end of summer, the operators are
ready to introduce 3G communications by the end of the year.
