You're reading: Arbuzov: Government plans to start negotiations with students

The conflict situation in Ukraine has to be resolved at the negotiating table, and the government is ready to start holding talks with students, Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Serhiy Arbuzov has said.

“I see a way out of the situation at the negotiating table… The
students took to the Maidan [Independence Square in Kyiv], and the
students were the first to state their position, so it’s necessary to
speak with them,” he said in an interview with the 1+1 television
channel on Thursday.

He said that the opposition and the students have different questions to the authorities.

“The Maidan is one, but the questions are different,” Arbuzov said.

He added that such negotiations with the students had already begun
and that all students who want to talk with the government had been
given such an opportunity.

Arbuzov said that the government is also ready to hold talks with the opposition.

“We are ready, but negotiations are not being held. They are not
planning to hold these negotiations. Once they are ready, we will also
be ready,” he said.
