Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said that the country's fleet of ambulances should be upgraded every year with 1,000 vehicles, the government's press service has reported.

Azarov gave such an instruction at a government meeting on Monday, which addressed the issue of the status of the implementation of the law on emergency medical care.

The report notes that the participants in the meeting raised the question of upgrading the fleet of ambulances, which numbers over 5,600 vehicles. However, some ambulances are already in need of major repairs or can even be written off. In the near future it will be necessary to replace 1,000 ambulances.

“The fleet of ambulances should be replaced – 1,000 vehicles this year and 1,000 vehicles next year. We need to find the funds to move at such a pace,” Azarov said.

He also said that there should be no denials of emergency medical care and that medical services should be provided on any call.

“If a person asks for help, he needs it and therefore he must necessarily get it,” Azarov said.
