The Ukrainian government is to increase the funding of the Culture television channel by 20 times, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

“Next year we will find money and make a good Culture Channel on the
First Channel, which will broadcast something good, instead of the
[Savik] Shuster show,” he said at a meeting with a Ukrainian
Russian-speaking writer, Andriy Kurkov, in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Azarov added that he likes the Russian Culture Channel.

“I really like the Russian Culture Channel, it is really good. And
ours is nothing special. I found out that the Russian channel’s budget
is $200 million, while ours has around Hr 1 million. Of course, we
won’t find 200 million, but we’ll manage to increase the funding of our
Culture Channel by at least 20 times,” he said.
