The Ukrainian government is studying the possibility of terminating the gas supply contract with Russia signed by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko through the courts, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

However, this decision has not been made yet, the premier said during the questioning in a criminal case against Tymoshenko at Pechersky District Court of Kyiv on Friday.

"We are studying the possibility of canceling the contract through court action. But we haven’t adopted such a decision yet," he said.

According to the premier, the government hopes to resolve this issue through negotiation.

In addition, one of the reasons why Ukraine has not applied to the court yet is that lawsuits of such kind usually take a long time, Azarov said.
