Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has welcomed the extension of the mandate of the European Parliament monitoring mission in Ukraine.

“I would like to point to a constructive position of European Parliament President Martin Schulz, with whom we set up this mission nearly a year ago. It has become a valuable and efficient confidence building instrument between Ukraine and the EU in one of the most difficult periods in our relations,” Azarov wrote on his page on Facebook on Thursday.

“The mission has shown the European Parliament’s important and constructive role in developing relations between Ukraine and the EU. I will be glad again to personally greet Aleksander Kwasniewski and Pat Cox in Ukraine. The Ukrainian leadership will render full support to the mission’s work,” he said.

“I believe that, by joining our efforts, we will come to signing an association agreement in Vilnius this coming fall. I would also like to greet the European Parliament’s positive decision on endorsing a streamlined visa facilitation agreement, which has become an important stage on the way toward visa-free travel between Ukraine and the EU. I hope we will not stop at this. The Ukrainian government is determined to do all it can to achieve this goal as soon as possible,” he said.
