He said this while commenting on the possible introduction of sanctions against Ukraine. The question of the possible preparation of sanctions will be one of the issues on the agenda of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels on Monday.

“I think it’s important to send a signal that if there is further repression and human rights violations, there will be consequences. We talked about this earlier. There will be consequences, one way or another,” he said, refusing to go into details.

Bildt noted that earlier Ukraine had canceled a legislative package of January 16, which “was good.”

“We saw the resignation of the government, which, let’s be frank, had discredited itself. But the political dialogue is not continuing; although we hope that it will resume. This is the only way forward,” he said.
