Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Raisa Bohatyriova has said the prevention of cardiovascular diseases should be an important priority.

"I would like to remind you that everything is based on prevention… I’m confident that among the methods that were tested in the world and that give other [much lower] mortality and morbidity figures are inexpensive preventative technologies," she said at a meeting of Ukrainian cardiologists and cardiac surgeons in Kyiv on Friday.

Bohatyriova said that the authorities had chosen the right strategy for modernizing and reforming the health care system in Ukraine, which will help in future ensure the country has modern medical equipment, private diagnostics and skilled doctors.

In the middle February president has dismissed Raisa Bohatyriova from the post of secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.

After that, Yanukovych appointed Bohatyriova to the posts of vice prime minister and minister of health of Ukraine.
