ODESA - A bomb planted under one of the rails on a track in Odesa exploded when a shunting locomotive was passing over it on Dec. 24, law enforcement officers said.

The engineer heard a bang and stopped the locomotive, the officers told Interfax.

The incident occurred near the Odesa-Zastava 1 station.

National railroad company Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed the incident but said that the bomb went off when it was between the shunter and the first car of a freight train the locomotive was pulling.

Ukrzaliznytsia said the train hadn’t been derailed and that no one had been hurt but that three concrete sleepers and the rails had been damaged.

The company claimed the incident had caused no traffic disruption.
