Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv), the largest airport in the country, in January-June 2016 increased its passenger traffic by 14 percent, compared to the same period of 2015, to 3.64 million people.

The press service of the airport told Interfax-Ukraine compared with the previous year the number of passengers who used the airport as an interchange hub doubled and amounted to 940,000.

“In the first half of the year Boryspil airport attracted five new carriers: Air Serbia (Belgrade), Atlasglobal (Antalya), Aegean Airlines (Athens and Larnaca), Mahan Air (Tehran) and Yanair (Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, Antalya, Rimini, Burgas and Bodrum). The existing and new carriers opened 25 new destinations, in particular the airport’s base carrier, UIA, began flights to six new points (Venice, Aktau, Nice, Dalaman, Bodrum and Palma de Mallorca), as well as increased the frequency of flights on the 26 existing routes,” the press service said.

In the first half of 2016, Boryspil serviced 33,100 flights.

“Despite the termination of air service with the Russian Federation (81 flights per week were cancelled), the number of flights rose by 1 percent compared to the same period last year. Thus, Boryspil airport managed to fully offset the negative impact of adverse external factors,” reads the report.
