You're reading: Boryspil airport sees 5.6% rise in passenger flow in 2012

Kyiv-based Boryspil International Airport in 2012 increased passenger flow by 5.6% compared to 2011, to 8.478 million passengers (in 2011, its passenger flow stood at 8.029 million people, according to data from the Infrastructure Ministry).

The airport’s press service told Interfax-Ukraine that last year the airport serviced 99,304 flights (49,655 departure and 49,649 arrival flights).

The volume of freight handled by the airport in 2012 came to 32,844 tonnes, and that of mail to 5,797 tonnes, which was 4% and 6% respectively up on 2011.

In December 2012, around 531 passengers used the airport’s services. In December the airport servied 6,992 flights (3,489 departure and 3,503 arrival flights). The volume of freight handled by the airport in December 2012 stood at 2,958 tonnes, and that of mail at 641 tonnes.

“2012 was a year of active development and the airport strengthening its position as the leader in aviation transportation in the country. Two large-scale events happened. First, this was the opening of the largest terminal in the country, which is now actively used to service international airlines. In addition, the airport successfully fulfilled a task of receiving and servicing the guests of the Euro 2012 European football championship,” reads the report, citing the airport’s director general, Anton Volov.

Boryspil International Airport is the main airport of the country and services 65% of the passenger air traffic in Ukraine. It is the only airport in Ukraine from which transcontinental flights are performed.
