Editor's Note: The following is a statement by the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko-Batkivshchyna faction in parliament, which controls 102 out of 450 seats, It contains allegations that President Viktor Yanukovych is trying to kill imprisoned ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, charges that administration officials have vehemently denied.

On Friday, Jan. 6, about 10:30 p.m., Yulia Tymoshenko suddenly lost consciousness after she took medicines provided by the penal colony personnel to treat ARVI (cold).
Tymoshenko’s fellow inmate started to knock on the door trying to get help.
Despite the constant camera-surveillance in the prison cell, which, according to the penitentiary service, is established for prisoners’ security, the prison cell door was opened only after 20 minutes and prison doctors arrived to provide emergency help to bring Tymoshenko back to life.
They managed to save the Batkivshchyna Party Leader from critical condition only after midnight. For more than two hours, Tymoshenko’s blood pressure was catastrophically low – 60/40.
At 2 a.m. on Jan. 7, a council of physicians was urgently convened, which decided to carry out a clinical examination. This is why on the next day, Tymoshenko was urgently transferred to a hospital in Kharkiv where some instrumental examinations (an X-ray test, MRI, CT) were conducted and blood was taken to make tests.
The Ministry of Health commission did not provide official reasons why she lost consciousness, having concealed the fact from the public and traditionally misinforming about Tymoshenko’s “satisfactory” state of health.
In this regard, Tymoshenko, leader of the Batkivshchyna Party, has submitted an application to the administration of the Kachanivska penal colony asking them not to allow to her doctors sent by the Ministry of Health.
Tymoshenko’s motivation is evident: people sent by the ministry are "Gestapo" doctors. They come to her not to treat her, but to fulfill the next cynical order by the government and to report about the stable state of health of Tymoshenko whom President Yanukovych is trying to kill behind the barbed wire.
We, the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko-Batkivshchyna faction, consider the incident with losing consciousness after taking medicines to be an attempt to physically destroy the leader of the opposition on Yanukovych’s direct order.
For this end, prison and medical personnel have been brutally and cynically used. Instead of making a diagnosis, providing treatment and honestly informing about what is happening behind the prison walls, they are talking nonsense and telling lies on the government’s orders, concealing the truth about the real danger to the life of the opposition Leader.
Our faction demands to immediately call the head of the State Penitentiary Service to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to give explanations about the events at the Kachanivska penal colony in the night of Jan. 6-7.
Besides, we demand that independent international doctors are immediately allowed to Yulia Tymoshenko to objectively examine Yulia Tymoshenko’s state of health, to determine the reasons of the sudden deterioration of her state of health, to set a diagnosis and to provide an adequate treatment.
The BYUT-Batkivschyna demands the immediate release of Tymoshenko and putting an end to political repressions in Ukraine.
